4/19/13

1) What made for a good presentation?
An organized set up and good preparation made for a good presentation. I made notecards to guide me through what I wanted to say about my project. These helped organize my thoughts and make my presentation clear and concise.
For my set up I had my poster, laptop with my website, curricula, and my capstone essay. These helped attract spectators. Also, my judge was able to flip through my end product and see what I created.

2) What problems did you experience?
Prior to my presenting to my judge, I got really nervous and left some information out as I presented to some juniors. However, after some practice I was able to clear my thoughts and get everything under control.

3) How can Capstone be improved?
Some improvements that can be done to Capstone are:
  • Reduce Stress - Students get put underneath a spotlight to write the essay, while they deal with their other classes, and many other issues students our age have to deal with.
  • More clear communication between the capstone professors because one will say something one semester and the other semester another professor say something else. It confuses the students and adds more stress.
  • Prepare us for the actual presentation more, including the end product, instead of emphasizing so much on the essay.

4/12/13

My physical presentation will include my poster, a copy of my curriculum, my pamphlet, and my laptop displaying my website. All of these components will be placed on top of a table cloth, except the poster which will be hung at the front of my table.
The website and pamphlet will contain similar information about my project.
The poster brings people in and hopefully will encourage them to ask questions.

Friday 4/5/13

My third tech piece will be a pamphlet that goes with the information within the website.
This pamphlet will help parents know exactly what their kids are learning at school about psychological and physical child abuse.
Creating this connection between the guardians and the school is necessary for the learning experience to go smoothly.
If the children feel comfortable talking to their guardians at home it will make them more comfortable.

End Product

The end product for my capstone project is a website, brochure and curriculum. I am currently working on the website in class. The links in my website include my introduction, 15 page capstone essay, my solutions to the issue, and the works cited.
The brochure will include  a brief summary of what my capstone project is and what my solutions are. My works cited will also be included in my brochure.

Slides

The color scheme fits and the font is appropriate.

White goes with my color scheme. The picture depicts my project.

The picture goes hand in hand with my capstone subject.
The picture shows a happy family and the font is not too overbearing.

PSA Script

Physical and psychological child abuse is often a secret hidden within families. For children, especially under thirteen years of age, it is difficult to comprehend what abuse is and how wrong it is. Educating children within the age range 4 – 13 with facts and “red flags” to detect child abuse and how it should be reported will end in larger amounts of child abuse cases reported, and therefore decrease number of child abused children. Help us prevent and report cases before it is too late.

Ideas for Project

I am planning to make a website and a brochure to aid my curriculum. My project is to educate elementary and middle school children about the red flags of psychological and physical abuse and how to report these cases. The curriculum will be taught to children up to the age of 13 by their P.E teachers.

Purpose: To aid my project and inform people of my issue and end product.

Target Audience: Children from the age of 5-13. Capstone judges. Teachers/educators.

Navigation System: I'm gonna have a variety of links that will lead to my essay, bibliography, etc. The buttons will be beveled and most likely across the top horizontally.

Organization: The title will be fairly big. I want it to be interactive because my target audience is kids.

Layout and Design: I will break it up with both div tags and page breaks. My colors have to be vibrant and inviting in order for kids to stay focused.

Practice Poster

I chose this layout because it gets the point across and it is simple. The colors stand out against the black background and the glow around the frogs makes it vibrant. Also my choice of font helps because I chose a very serious one for the main fact and the subtitle is unique.

P90x

My group was assigned the logistics section of the activity. We found the necessary resources to make P90x work when it was just an idea. A workout program was needed, as well as a camera man, backups, music, advertising, funding, and much more.
We also figured out the pay plans that are offered. On the website they tell you you can pay in 3 payments so it does not seem as much.
From what I learned, I can tell why it is such a good business idea.

Capstone Topic

So far my capstone project idea is to create a program that teaches children how to realize they are being abused and report it. I am planning to major in Pediatric Nursing and it will link to my capstone through the health effects of being abused. My topic was not approved, however, I am working on creating a curriculum or guideline to carry out the program.

Capstone Dislikes

Dislikes about Capstone:
  • The process of coming up with an end product can be very stressful and vague.
  • Our service learning has to do with our Capstone project and it is difficult to link these two.
  • We have to create an end product with basically all theories because sometimes the issues picked are too big and we do not have the resources to solve them.
